How hearing protection products help you look after your ear health?

In the popular science book ‘The Body User Manual’, in the chapter on hearing, we can find a wealth of information and interesting facts about the structure and functioning of the ear and, consequently, hearing. From our point of view, a couple of quotes about hearing are worth noting. One of them is: ‘Our ears are made to live in a quiet world. (...) Hearing hairs wear out with age and unfortunately do not regenerate.’

In addition, Bill Bryson, author of the book, explains the history of the definition and practical aspects of the unit of sound measurement - which is the decibel (dB). He writes ‘The decibel is a logarithmic unit of measurement. Which means that an increase in loudness, is not calculated mathematically, in the usual sense, but as an increase by orders of magnitude. So the sum of two sounds of 10 dB, will not give a result of 20 dB, but 13 dB. The loudness doubles by about 6 decibels. Which means that a noise of 96 dB is not only slightly louder than one calculated to be 90 dB, but is twice as loud.’

The book also includes a statement from Mike Goldsmith, an acoustic scientist ‘(...) Our hearing really couldn't be better. Therefore, having such an excellent ‘tool’, it is worth taking care of your hearing.
